County 4-H Fair Enters Last Day; Activities Aplenty

COURT HOUSE — Today is the final day of the Cape May County 4-H Fair. Many activities are planned throughout the day. A Cavalcade of Winners will conclude the fair this evening.
A special horse event, the team penning contest, will be staged Sunday July 20 at 1 p.m., but the fair itself will close tonight.
All events take place at the 4-H Fair Grounds, located on Court House-South Dennis Road at the second traffic light.
The following is a list of activities for the events:
SATURDAY, JULY 19, 2008
HORSE EVENTS:
Western Day: 8:30 a.m. / Horse Show Ring (Rear of Fairgrounds)
Horse show including all western-style events, such as western pleasure, trail, and reining classes. Includes Future 4-H’er and leadline participation for young 4-H children and a unique English Go Western Division where hunter-type horses compete in three western classes under western tack.
Games Classes: Follows Western Day Classes / Horse Show Ring
Thrilling demonstration of 4-H members’ skill in western speed events, including barrel racing, pole bending, the keg race, and a brand new games event, the flag race.
CHILDREN’S PET SHOW – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
Registration at 9:00 a.m. / Judging Starts at 10:00 a.m. / Main Stage
Any type of small animal is eligible – no large animals, please. Participant ribbons and trophies awarded. This favorite 4-H Fair event is sponsored by Smeltzer & Sons, and is under the direction of 4-H Club Leader, Angie Trafford.
4-H RABBIT SHOWMANSHIP CLINIC:
Following the Pet Show on the Main Stage
4-H Prep members can learn how to correctly handle and prepare project animals for a 4-H showmanship and judging.
EXHIBITS & VENDORS: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
4-H youth and adult project entries on display in the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center (front of the Fairgrounds) featuring: foods, clothing, crafts, woodworking, marine science, vegetables, plants, artwork and more. Open to the public from Noon to 9 p.m. Also open throughout the Fairgrounds are many educational and non-profit exhibitors, as well as commercial vendors.
4-H ACTION ACTIVITIES:
4-H TEDDY BEAR TEA: 12:30 – 1:00 p.m. / Lockwood 4-H Youth Center
Bring your Teddy Bear (or your favorite stuffed toy) and join us for our annual Teddy Bear Parade. Have tea and goodies, learn all about the Teddy Bear, and have lots of fun! Joan Lehberger, 4-H Consultant and 4-H members. Reservations accepted at 609-465-5115, x654.
LIVE ANIMAL DEMONSTRATIONS: Livestock Barn Area
Demonstrations of 4-H project animals – including the “Duck Slide” — will be given throughout the day. Times are posted at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center.
“4-H LIFE ON THE FARM” ACTIVITY: Outside Lockwood 4-H Youth Center
This takes place on the Fairgrounds, and is lots of fun. Registration with “Action Activities” in the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center. Schedule to be posted at Main Stage (outside Lockwood 4-H Youth Center).
CHICKEN BBQ: 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
A very popular tradition at the Fair! The BBQ is sponsored by the Cape May County Board of Agriculture and features delicious BBQ chicken, lima beans, chips, cranberry sauce, roll and butter, beverage and desert. Served by volunteers and local dignitaries. Take-out is also available. Tickets available on the Fairgrounds: Adults $9.50; children (12 and under) $6.00.
MAIN STAGE ENTERTAINMENT:
Joe Cantaffa’s Rock & Roll Chorus with featured guest, The Rebelettes: 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 8:00 p.m./ Main Stage
A group of talented teens with a unique contemporary take on a cappella music, will perform rock and pop songs with a handful of their members using their voices to mimic musical instruments and featured guest “The Rebelettes”.
Family Night at the Amusement Rides: 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. /Rides Area
Unlimited rides for the special price of only $15.00.
Hamer’s School of Karate: 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. / Main Stage
Martial Arts Demonstration under the direction of Butch Hamer.
STROLLING ENTERTAINERS:
In addition to the attractions and events listed above for the main stage, the following “strolling entertainers” will be performing on the Fairgrounds at various times throughout the three days of the 4-H Fair:
Vappo The Clown:
Enjoy the antics of the clown riding his Calli-O-Bike through the Fairgrounds as he plays for you and performs funny acts.
Fire House 3:
Making the rounds — and making music to add to the festive atmosphere.
Exotic Bird Show:
Macaw Parrots are a specialty, so be sure to watch for the NJ Bird Man.
The Turtle Singer:
Live turtle encounters, turtle feeding, turtle Q & A’s, turtle races, turtle leash-walking, turtle tricks, turtle tunnels. Free turtle stickers, prizes and free candy worms! Presented by Karen Buckley.
4-H CAVALCADE OF WINNERS: Front Stage / 8 p.m.
This is the “grand finale” of 4-H Fair activities. Presentation of awards to youth and adults for outstanding project exhibits, displays, as well as to various show winners.
SPECIAL SUNDAY HORSE EVENT! (July 20)
4-H Team Penning: 1:00 p.m. / Horse Show Ring
This 2nd annual addition to our 4-H Fair consists of a fast-paced and exciting cow-sorting competition between teams of three 4-H members mounted on horseback. The objective is for the team of three riders to separate three same-numbered cattle from a large herd and drive the three cows into a small pen at the opposite end of the arena, without allowing the rest of the herd to follow. The fastest team wins.
Additional entertainment may be announced the day of the event.
