WHITESBORO – Labor Day Holiday Weekend here will prove to be one of the most memorable weekends in Middle Township’s history.
A celebration of the restoration of the Whitesboro Grammar School on Fri., Sept. 3, at 4:30 p.m. will kick-off the 22nd Annual Whitesboro Reunion Festival. Many community leaders and proud residents are expected be present to witness this great occasion, accord-ing to a release.
That celebration will be followed at 6 p.m. by a free Family Movie: “The Karate Kid” featuring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan is a wise, poignant movie delivering a timeless message across generations and decades.
The 22nd Annual Whitesboro Reunion Festival program, scheduled for Sat., Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. will be full of excitement with recognitions and awards presented by leadership of Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc. as well as Great Messages and Entertainment from an impressive line-up of great speakers i.e. U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-1st N.C.) “bringing an inspiring message regarding the goals and aspirations of the founder of Whitesboro, George White; and Monique Greenwood, former editor-in-chief of Essence Magazine and Entrepreneur and Owner of five AKWAABA bed & breakfast Inns, two of which are located in Cape May.
Entertainment will include music by local jazz great, Eddie Morgan as a trio, followed by Decca Records Operatic Singers, VAIDACAPO, and a karate demonstration by Hamer School of Karate, owned and operated by Burgess “Butch” Hamer, a local and renowned black belt champion instructor.
At 6 p.m., don’t miss the Center for Community Arts and Humanities photographic ex-hibit “Black, Blue & True To The Inspiration” featuring local jazz musicians and the artist who inspire them. A reception and two jam sessions will follow. All are invited to the Mar-tin Luther King Center to clap their hands and pat their feet.
Sunday’s worship services and Gospel Festival begins at 11 a.m. with words of Life and Truth spoken by Rev. George Thompson, First Baptist Church of Whitesboro.
A Gospel Festival follows with songs of inspiration, peace and joy by Minister Paul Blake, Jamaican recording artist, Men of Valor and First Baptist Church Choir.
Vendors will abound for shopping pleasure and eating delight.
