Christmas in Court House Draws Large Crowd

By Al Campbell

COURT HOUSE — Many Middle Township residents bundled up against a cool night Friday, Dec. 4 to take part in Middle Township Chamber of Commerce’s and Middle Township Recreation Department’s “Christmas in Middle Township.”
The event began with a parade south on Main Street, and included the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center’s ceremonial detail, Middle Township High School Panther Marching Band, and numerous fire engines and floats from churches and youth organizations.
Santa arrived right on time to flip the switch that illuminated the donated Christmas tree directly across South Main Street from Bellevue Tavern where K&L Sound and Light produced a blizzard and snowflake light show that added a seasonal touch to the gala event.
For the first time, Santa led the procession of youngsters west on Mechanic Street past numerous tables that dispensed food and warm drinks to hear children’s wishes in the new Cape May Court House Firehouse.
In the Old Courthouse, the Tree of Life Celebration dazzled spectators with the ornate decorations on the assorted trees. The auction there went to benefit the Holy Redeemer Hospice, Coalition Against Rape and Abuse and United Way of Cape May County and Cape Assist.
