Cape May Jazz names new Executive Director

By On Deck Staff

Jersey City native Salvador A. Riggi Jr. relocated to the Cape May area seven years ago.
As a resident of Jersey City, Riggi served as a commissioner on the zoning board of adjustment, various advisory committees, and as Chairman of the Jersey City Environmental Commission.
Riggi served as President of his neighborhood block association for over 20 years. Experienced in organizing fund raising events as a community leader, Riggi was responsible for organizing and obtaining Municipal grants for various improvement projects administered through the neighborhood block association.
Throughout his professional career he developed excellent skills in business, executive management, finances, budgeting, and personnel management.
A musician and avid fan of jazz, Riggi attended many jazz festivals and became actively involved as a volunteer before being appointed to the Executive Board of Directors.
His hobby of playing guitar for over 40 years led to his love of jazz and blues as a true American art form.
As the Cape May Jazz Festival was recently the recipient of the Discover New Jersey Arts 2008 People’s Choice Award for “#1 Music Festival” in the State, Riggi takes great pride and responsibility to work hand in hand with the executive board to maintain and increase the popularity of the Cape May semi-annual musical event.
Riggi’s vision for the organization includes expanding music education out-reach programs in the local schools, and increasing the organizations community involvement by offering free summer concert series, increasing sponsorship and foundation support of the twice annual jazz festivals, and increasing the public’s awareness of jazz as a true American art form.
Riggi is looking forward to making new friends at the up-coming 31st Cape May Jazz festival being held April 17 through April 19.
The festival theme is “Legends…and more Blues” featuring the James Cotton Blues Band, and a “Tribute to Billy Eckstine and Sarah Vaughan.”
Program and ticket information for the up-coming jazz festival can be obtained online at capemayjazz.org or 877-7-CMJAZZ.
