Cape May County Freeholders Recognize Volunteers

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – April is National Volunteer Month and the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized the Cape May County Citizens Emergency Response Team leadership for volunteering their time to create and manage the county-wide C.E.R.T. Teams at their meeting held on April 26, 2011.
Freeholder Ralph E. Sheets, Jr. said, “C.E.R.T. volunteers have been very instrumental in assisting the County and the Municipalities by helping to assist in search and rescue for lost people, helping in managing shelters and caring for residents in disaster events like the seven we have had in the past two years, four of which were great enough to warrant Presidential Disaster Declarations.”
There are over three hundred C.E.R.T. volunteers in Cape May County coordinated by Emergency Management Director Frank McCall and C.E.R.T. Volunteer Coordinator Louis Ostrander. McCall said, “Three C.E.R.T. Supply Trailers have been grant awarded to the County of Cape May, Avalon and Lower Township. Also, through a Grant provided by the Cape May County Emergency Management Communications Center, the Ocean City C.E.R.T. Program is expanding its citizen program to include the Hearing Impaired Community as volunteers.
Freeholder Sheets concluded, “Cape May County is recognized as a leader in the State of New Jersey in the development of the C.E.R.T. Program among the 21 counties because of these volunteer leaders.”
