NORTH WILDWOOD – The Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund held a block party at the North End American Grill on Aug. 23.
This fundraising event included raffle drawings, outside sales booths, and food and drink specials to benefit the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund, a Cape May County-based organization which has been helping families of pediatric cancer patients since 1992.
Raffle prizes included a donated surfboard, two donated bicycles, and a trip to Ireland to play golf.
Food specials included $5 to $6 appetizers, $5 sandwiches, and drink specials ranging from $3 to $5.
Sponsors of the event included Corona, Landshark, Stormr Foul Weather Gear, Mount Gay Rum, North End American Grill, and Hyperflex Wetsuits.
Stormr Foul Weather and Hyperflex Wetsuits had stands outside of the restaurant where they sold their merchandise. The Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund stand sold merchandise as well, including t-shirts with Brendan Borek’s artwork on them.
Joe Pollack, vice president, Sales and Marketing at Henderson Sport, an international wetsuit company affiliated with Hyperflex, and his wife, gifted the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund by flying “The Scratch Band,” from Anguilla to North Wildwood for the event, as the evening’s entertainment. The band had an island sound, which stuck to the theme of the event.
“The bar has a great surf vibe and this is a surf inspired charity,” said Pollack. “Everybody brought their own piece to the puzzle and it worked out well.”
The Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund has several events taking place in November, including the Seventh Annual High Tides Striper Tournament and the 11th Annual Turkey Trot.
