Boy Scout Receives Donation from Unity Tour for Police Memorial

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – Ben Jargowsky, 17, of Boy Scout Troop 76, is currently working on a project that will earn him the rank of Eagle Scout. A senior at Ocean City High School, Jargowsky is currently raising funds for a permanent memorial to fallen police officers – especially Sea Isle City’s Officer Michael “Mickey” Cullinane, who was overcome by lethal gases in 1992, while rescuing an injured worker from a construction pit. The memorial will be erected on Landis Avenue at 26th Street, the site where Officer Cullinane lost his life.
When the members of the Police Unity Tour’s South Jersey Chapter II learned about Jargowsky’s plans for a memorial, they quickly took action and collected donations for the project locally and nationally. Then, Oct. 23, they presented the young scout with a check for $3,700, which represented $2,700 from the Unity Tour’s National Executive Board and $1,000 from South Jersey Chapter II.
According to Police Unity Tour South Jersey Chapter II President Dennis Felsing, Jr., the members of his organization were very happy to support this worthy effort.
“This was a no brainier for the members of the Police Unity Tour because our primary purpose is to raise awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty,” said Felsing. “Considering that four Executive Board Members live or have worked in Sea Isle City and that Mickey Cullinane was partner to two of our National Delegates, this could not have hit more close to home for us. Mickey was more than just a cop, he was our family member, who laughed with us, ate dinner at our tables and shared in our holidays. He was our brother and we loved him, and a project that ensures that his memory will live on is something we wanted to get involved with. Our resources reach across North America from every aspect of Law Enforcement, from Municipal to Federal, and we all have the same goal in mind: To Remember the Fallen. Our Motto is ‘We Ride for Those Who Died’ and as long as we do, the fallen will always be remembered.”
