CAPE MAY AIRPORT – The Board of Directors at Naval Air Station (NAS) Wildwood Aviation Museum has named John Fitzgerald of Rio Grande the 2011 Volunteer of the Year. This is the first year for the award and The Aviation Museum is proud to honor Mr. Fitzgerald for his dedicated service.
Mr. Fitzgerald has been an integral part of the museum’s development through his efforts as a tour guide, lead on the F-14 restoration project, lecture series organizer and historical consultant. Additionally, he helped plan and design the museum’s newest exhibit dedicated to the United States Coast Guard and the 9/11/01 “All Available Boats” display. NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum relies heavily on volunteer support, and wishes to give dedicated volunteers their much deserved recognition.
Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located in Historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport, New Jersey. Cape May Airport was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945. The museum is currently open daily 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
