Avalon Lions Raise Money for Food Banks

By Herald Staff

Thousands of dollars have been raised by the Avalon Lions Club to support local efforts to help those most impacted by hurricane Sandy and further challenged by the upcoming holidays. These efforts have helped to inspire other groups and business to get involved with this important cause.
To date, the ALC has written checks to the Lions Club International Fund (LCIF) for direct NJ hurricane relief, the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the Holy Redeemer Food Pantry, and the United Way Wildwood Food Pantry. A grand total of $12,500 was donated.
The check donated to the Community Food Bank of NJ inspired a radio station campaign, Operation Help, by WMGM 103.7 FM Atlantic City. From left: DJ Joe Borsello, Margie Barham (executive director Community Food Bank), Mike Matt, Avalon Lions Club president; Milt Kuhn, Lions Club PR Director, and DJ Scott Reilly WMGM-FM in Atlantic City. Borsello and Reilly host the Morning Edge on WMGM-FM in Atlantic City and have been coordinating Operation Help for five years.
