Avalon Dedicates Concert to Vets

By Herald Staff

AVALON — There will be a concert dedicated to veterans at the 21st Street Veterans Plaza on July 23 at 7 p.m. sponsored by the Borough of Avalon and the Avalon Brass Camp Instructors.
The Seven Mile Island Singers will perform as part of the ceremony.
Mayor Martin L. Pagliughi will present a flag to the family of Marine Corps 1st Lt. Travis Manion, who was killed by a sniper in Al Anbar, Iraq on April 29.
A resident of Doylestown, Pa., Manion spent summers here. He was a three-sport All-Catholic for LaSalle College High School.
Speaking at concert will be state Sen. Nicholas Asselta (R-1st). The borough invites everyone to join at this event to remember what the veterans have given to keep the country free.
The Avalon Brass Camp faculty is lead by Dr. Bryan K. Appleby-White who is an assistant professor of trumpet and brass at Rowan University.
The Brass Camp will take place July 23-26 at the 39th Street recreation facility and the Avalon Museum. Applications are located at the Avalon Community Hall.
Other concerts will take place each night of the week at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday and Thursday they will be held at the museum on 39th Street and Wednesday will be at the Veterans Plaza at 21st street.
Friday night will resume the normal Plaza Concert Series with the John Walters Community Band starting at 7 p.m.
