A Hero’s Homecoming

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE – Not even a windswept rain could keep a large crowd of well-wishers in the Court House Acme away from welcoming home SSGT Matthew Martino, a local hero as he returned from his most recent deployment in Afghanistan.
Upon his Sun., April 22 return to his hometown Martino was greeted by a host of family, friends and residents wanting to thank the sergeant for his service.
Martino, the son of Debbie and Tom Martino of Del Haven, is a patrolman with the Middle Township Police Department.
Martin served as an F-16 crew chief with the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing. Along with his most recent deployment to Afghanistan, he was previously deployed to Qatar as well as two separate deployments to Iraq.
After a short rest from his work in the military, the 28-year-old Martino will return to his job policing the township’s streets.
“We’re proud of him and we’re glad he’s back with us safe and sound,” said Middle Police Capt. John Edwards.
