Looking for a new adventure to enjoy with the family? Try the fun, exciting world of “geocaching,” an inexpensive hobby perfect for family trips or for right in your own neighborhood.
Join the Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program for an introductory “Family Geocaching Workshop,” Saturday, October 24, from 1-5 p.m. The workshop will take place at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center, located at 355 Court House-S. Dennis Rd., on the grounds of the 4-H fairgrounds, in Cape May Court House.
Participating families will learn about the geocaching phenomenon and GPS technology, practice geocaching on the 4-H fairgrounds, explore other nearby geocaches and at the end of the workshop, receive an achievement certificate.
The program fee is $15 for two people and $5 for each additional person in the group.
All equipment is provided, but participants may bring their own GPS units if desired. Refreshments will be served. Preregistration with payment is required. Everyone is welcome; however children must be accompanied by an adult! The suggested age for this workshop is five years and above.
According to www.geocaching.com, geocaching is “a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure.”
Anyone can place a geocache anywhere in the world, pinpoint its location using global positioning satellite (GPS) technology based on latitude and longitude, “and then share the geocache’s existence and location online.
Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache.” Geocaching provides families with quality time to-gether as they search for caches and explore new places.
