Event Raised Funds for Children Living in Foster Care

By Press Release

SOMERS POINT – Community members and business leaders recognized Child Abuse Prevention Month by Going Blue for CASA April 11 at the Linwood Country Club.
According to a release, the event was hosted by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, Go Blue for CASA raises awareness of children living in foster care and the work of CASA volunteers who ensure these children quickly find safe, permanent homes.
The support of Linwood Country Club, Clay’s Climate Control, Foster-Karney Foundation Fund, Avalon Lions, AtlantiCare, Golden Nugget, and other sponsors made this event possible.
“Go Blue for CASA helps us raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month and all of the children and youth living in foster care in Atlantic and Cape May Counties,” stated CASA Executive Director Angie Waters. “We were grateful that about 350 people attended the event to have fun, but to also learn more about how and why CASA volunteers help children living in foster care. It is essential for the public to understand how vital it is for a child in foster care to have a CASA volunteer.”
The event raised nearly $70,000 to help recruit, train and support community volunteers who advocate for children living in foster care.
“This fiscal year, CASA volunteers will advocate for 700 children and youth living in foster care in Atlantic and Cape May Counties. We know that about 300 children enter the foster care system every year, so we must continue to recruit new CASA volunteers to meet those needs and defend the children’s rights,” stated CASA Director of Development Lauren Crenshaw.
“Go Blue for CASA helps us raise much-need operating funds, but it also helps us stay connected to the community and encourages others to get involved.
Providing advocacy for children living in foster care is definitely a community effort.”
