NORTH WILDWOOD – For my Boy Scout Eagle Scout project, I renovated the Mary Garden at Wildwood Catholic High School and added two much-needed bike racks to the property.
I raised over $1,800 by asking for donations from friends, relatives, local businesses, local organizations, and everyone I came in contact with. I sold coffee and donuts at the local Seafarer’s Festival and asked people going into wing night at Windrift hotel for donations.
Over 101 hours went into the planning and completion of this project.
The project consisted of ordering and collecting all of the supplies and tools required.
I then asked my local scout troop for volunteers to help me with the garden area. We put down topsoil to hide all the exposed tree roots. We then pinned down the weed barrier, and connected and installed the rubber edging.
We added the stone pathway, rubber mulch, and put together a new aluminum bench and attached it to the tree. We planted some forevers, hostas, and hens-and-chicks plants to the garden area.
I went back in October and installed the bike racks. I cemented in one bike rack on the 15th Avenue side of the school and attached the other bike rack to an existing concrete ramp on 16th Avenue side.
Then a few students and I planted daffodil, iris, anemone, and hyacinth bulbs. Altogether, we planted over 200 bulbs to the garden area.
My project is complete.
ED. NOTE: Gloede, 14, is the son of Christopher and Dawn Gloede of Wildwood Crest. He is a sophomore at Wildwood Catholic High School, and a member of Boy Scout Troop 73, West Cape May. He entered as a Cub Scout in second grade and became a Boy Scout in June 2012.
West Cape May – The amount of TV shows airing is getting out of hand. Less movies are being produced today than ever before. Instead, people are glued to watching shows that most people never heard of.
