Dog of the Year chosen

By On Deck Staff

The popular Ocean City’s Dog of the Year contest is a fundraiser for the Ocean City Dog Park Assn. that provides a spacious place for canines to cavort at 45th and Haven Ave. The announcement will be made at noon, Oct. 25 on the sun deck of the Port O’ Call Hotel, 15th and Boardwalk.
The coronation will be followed at approximately 12:30 p.m. by the colorful Howl-Oween Costume contest. Last year entrants were dressed as lifeguards, army personnel and numerous get-ups that defied description.
Wesley Bass, reigning Dog of the Year, will be present to greet his pawblic and turn over the title to his successor, chosen from this year’s 12 competitors.
Wesley is a purebred Australian Shepard that has given up a sheep-herding career to become a therapy dog. He regularly visits retirement homes and hospitals to entertain residents.
A silent auction will also be held during the afternoon. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Pavilion area of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.
