By Press Release

DENNIS TOWNSHIP — Third grade students in Dennis Township became artists with a cause when they drew pictures of adoptable pets at the Cape May County Animal Shelter.
Teachers Alison Curvan and Samantha Matthews organized the event involving an art show, a persuasive writing exercise, and a request for donations for the Animal Shelter.
Parents and community members joined the third grade in the Dennis Township Primary School all purpose room for the art show.
Judges for the art show were Dennis Township Mayor Zeth Matalucci, Dennis Township Recreation Center Supervisor Sheree Devers, and Cape May County Animal Shelter Manager Judy Davies and Assistant Manager Leslie Riedel.
“We really wanted to emphasize the importance of community service, and show our students that, even as kids, they can have a positive impact on the world,” says Curvan. She adds that they were able to collect a large numbers of items as well as cash donations for the shelter.
Matthews explains, “These kids are animal lovers, and they are a compassionate bunch, so we knew this would be a project they would really get behind.”
Winners of the art show were Ava Hope, Cadie Lord and Eliza Pappas.
