Dennis Township Students Create PSAs for Cape Assist Contest

DTSD PSA

By Press Release

DENNIS TOWNSHIP – Two teams of Dennis Township Middle School students created public service announcements (PSAs) for the 2017 Cape May County Healthy Community Coalition PSA contest – and both won!
Open to all Cape May County students K-12, the contest is intended to raise awareness of drug misuse and abuse, how to make good choices, and the impact of cyberbullying.
Winners’ videos will be used by Cape Assist as part of their training and community education efforts.
Advised by media specialist Julie Factor, two groups of students volunteered their time during study hall and recess to work on their projects.
Both the 6th and 7th grade groups chose cyberbullying as their theme and came up with their own concepts and scripts for their PSAs.
“They rehearsed for several days and then filmed it in one period, just like professionals,” Factor says.
She was also impressed that they then used their skills learned from teacher Matt Arch in STEAM class (science, technology, engineering, art and math) to choose appropriate music and edit the video themselves.
The students are thrilled that they won and look forward to a celebratory luncheon to be held in the near future.
The videos are available on the Dennis Township website video gallery at http://www.dtschools.org/apps/video/.
