DENNIS TOWNSHIP – Dennis Township School District is proud to announce their 2017 National Junior Honor Society inductees: Raymond Bozarth, Quinn Carlson, Emma Covarrubias, Julia Daino, Suzanna Dietrich, Ava Elisano, Mackenzie Enteado, Kaitlin Frazier, Kate Herlihy, Aidan Hofmann, Alexis Jamison, James Kessler, Madeleine McCurdy, Paige McCurdy, Caitlin McGurk, Holly McGurk, Joshua Mendyk, Sayde Nichols, Samantha Payne, Georgia Roache, Charlotte Selover, Joel Sheptock, Grace Thompson, Jordan Tomlin, Ryan Turner
A total of fifteen eighth graders and ten seventh graders were selected to receive this prestigious honor. Students were selected based on their academic performance, community involvement and extracurricular activities and are expected to participate in NJHS activities this spring, including a celebratory luncheon, a service project and other meetings.
Guidance counselor and NJHS advisor Monica DiVito is excited about this year’s induction and the students involved in the program. “We have a wonderful group of students selected to be in the honor society, both for academic and community involvement,” she explains. She sees this group acting as role models for other students, especially in the lower grades, and hopes that bringing seventh graders into the group will provide some continuity each year.
After being welcomed and introduced by Superintendent Mark Miller and Principal Jamie VanArtsdalen, students read aloud the five NJHS characteristics as peers lit candles representing those traits: scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship. Once completed, the students received a certificate, pin and traditional carnation and were officially welcomed as members of the society.
Parents and children enjoyed refreshments afterwards, provided by the Dennis Township School District.
VanArtsdalen says the NJHS induction ceremony was an important part of the process. “I am so proud of these students and I’m happy their parents and families get to see our appreciation for their hard work and dedication to being both good students and involved members of the community,” she states.
