WOODBINE – Students and staff from Woodbine Elementary School came together to take part in a multicultural arts celebration May 16. The event, organized by teachers Whitney Benedetto, Christine Barry, and Megan Oravsky, combined visual and performing arts with an emphasis on cultural awareness. Those who attended the event enjoyed vocal and instrumental performances that included a song presented in American Sign Language, as well as a traditional dance from the Philippines called Tinikling. After the performances, students and parents were able to view and enjoy an art show full of student creations and displays highlighting a variety of cultures, many of which influenced the art on display. Afterwards, books whose authors drew upon ideas from a variety of cultures were available for purchase at the school’s book fair, hosted by Ms. Abbe Harris and Mrs. Judy Casper.
