West Cape May African American Historical Society Plans Recognition Ceremony

WEST CAPE MAY — The West Cape May African American Historical Society have announced its second annual Community Recognition ceremony.
One of its missions is to recognize and preserve the history of African American families and business owners in the West Cape May community as far back as the early 1800s.
Whether year-round, recent resident, a summer homeowner or visitor, they invite the public to join them Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the West Cape May Borough Hall, 732 Broadway, West Cape May. This event is free and open to the public.
This year they honor the history of West Cape May and recognize 2018 community recipients.
The honorees have resided in the area for the last 50 years and are recognized for their continued support and involvement in civic and community events.
The honorees are: Shirley (Vasser) Johnson, Barbara ( Wing) Green, Dwight V. Coleman, Isabelle Gordon (Howard), Knight (Glenfield) – Molson (Hazel Lashley), Robert “Bobby” Harris, Edna Allison (Perrineau) Family, Joseph and Mary Bose Family, The Richardson Family (Judy Tyler), Burton- Dickerson (Joi Peeples), Annabel Wise Family (Anna Williams), The Trusty Family (Beaman-Miller).
A special recognition will be given to the following for their outstanding community support to the Cape May and West Cape May Communities: Leonard Wilmore, Shirley Vance Wilson, Eugene and Emily Dempsey.
