Irish Dancers Heading to England

Gwen Resch

By Johanna Hovik

SEAVILLE – Eleven-year-old Maggie Halbruner of this community is practicing her Irish jig, but not for the obvious reason of St. Patrick’s Day.
Halbruner is a championship-level Irish dance competitor and has qualified to compete in the World Irish Dance Association (WIDA) World Championships.
The main purpose of WIDA is to promote Irish dancing around the world. It seems to be working.
Halbruner, along with several others from her dance academy, will be showing off their moves in Brighton, England, this year’s host city. The city is on the English Channel.
England bound; Halbruner is packing her bags and perfecting her jig.
Hundreds from all over the globe, including Cape May County’s own, will be competing March 31 through April 3 at the Brighton Centre hoping to be named a world champion.
