COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Historical and Genealogical Society (CMCHGS) has announced the historic Judge Nathaniel Foster House has been saved.
During the May 10 Chosen Board of Freeholders meeting, a resolution was passed to execute a contract of sale between the society for the 1.2 acre property located at 1649 Bayshore Road for $235,000 and the county’s Open Space Program.
According to CMCHGS Board President Howard Aaronson, as government support of museums and history venues dwindles, more and more history centers are faced with difficult financial decisions
“The decision to put the Foster House on the market was a difficult one,” said Aaronson.
The sale of the Foster property to the Open Space Program now means the circa 1730 house and its adjoining property will be conserved and protected for generations to come.
“This is a win/win situation,” Aaronson noted. “By working cooperatively with the Open Space Program and Lower Township, the Cape May County Historical and Genealogical Society continues to realize its mission to preserve and protect Cape May County history.”
