SEA ISLE CITY – The Sea Isle City Police Department hosted a well-attended National Night Out celebration at Excursion Park Aug. 2, where hundreds of children and their families played games, enjoyed free food, listened to live music, and frolicked on inflatable obstacle courses. The evening also included a free photo booth, an appearance by Dodge, the Sheriff’s Horse, equipment displays, and plenty of information about safety and drug prevention awareness.
At the event’s Dunk Tank, where $703 was raised for Mayor Desiderio’s 2016 Holiday Toy and Food Drive, families drenched City Council members, police officers and other good sports, who volunteered to help a good cause.
Families also explored the interiors of police cars, fire engines, ambulances, lifeguard boats, a Mobile Command Unit, and other rescue vehicles.
According to event organizer Captain Thomas McQuillen, Sea Isle’s National Night Out was a success because of the tremendous support received from the City’s first responders, local businesses and other members of the community.
The list of event sponsors included the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce (supplier of the photo booth), Casino Pizza / LaCosta Lounge (pizza, water and soda), Camo Dogs (hot dogs and soda), The Springfield Inn (The Juliano Brothers Band), The Ocean Drive Restaurant & Bar (face painters), Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House (inflatable bounce houses and games), and Mayor Desiderio (dunk tank).
Also participating were representatives from the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Sea Isle City Beach Patrol, Sea Isle City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Sea Isle City Volunteer Fire Department, the Coalition Against Rape & Abuse (CARA), Sea Isle City’s Municipal Alliance Committee, and the City’s Tourism Office.
After Sea Isle’s National Night Out festivities came to a close, families enjoyed a free showing of the hit Disney movie Descendants – one of this summer’s free Tuesday night “Movies Under the Stars” at Excursion Park.
