WILDWOOD CREST — Students at Crest Memorial School collected over 1,800 pairs of socks to help keep the homeless warm during this frigid winter.
According to a release, in less than a month, the pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school’s students donated the socks that were given to the Branches Outreach Center in Rio Grande, which provides clothing and other necessities to the county’s homeless population.
The idea for the sock drive came from the school’s Peer Leaders, middle school students, who implemented the plan for the drive and solicited participation from their fellow students by giving presentations to each homerooml.
One of Crest Memorial’s third-grade classes won a school “pajama day” by winning the contest for the homeroom to collect the most socks.
Crest Memorial School’s Peer Leaders are advised by teacher Linda Ennis.
