County Zoo to conduct Summer Zookeeper Intern Program

By On Deck Staff

Cape May County Zoo is currently looking for interns for its 2010 Summer Zookeeper Intern Program. Applicants accepted in the program will gain experience working with exotic zoo animals.
Interns will shadow a zookeeper and rotate through each area of the zoo. Interns will learn about basic husbandry, diets, exhibit design and repair, medical care, and more. Each intern will design and complete an approved project of their choosing.
The program is an unpaid educational internship and preference will be given to science majors enrolled in a Bachelor Degree program. The program is scheduled to run for a minimum of six weeks, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, times and days are flexible.
Working in a zoo can be a physical job, please be sure that you are capable of doing this type of work.
Interested applicants are asked to fill out a Cape May County Employment application found at capemaycountygov.net and in the space marked “Positions applied for” fill in “2010 Summer Zookeeper Intern.” Mail it, along with a resume to the Cape May County Zoo, Attn: Dr. Alex Ernst, 4 Moore Road – DN 801, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
