COURT HOUSE — Oct. 3-9 is National 4-H Week, and Cape May County is celebrating with an Open House. The public event will take place on Wed., Oct. 6, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center, located at 355 Court House-South Dennis Rd. All are welcome.
Local 4-H youth will welcome potential members, showcase current 4-H clubs and activities, play games, serve refreshments and give away prizes.
Also that night, 4-H members and guests will join millions of young people across the nation in participating in the third annual “National Youth Science Experiment.” “4-H20” explores water quality and climate change. Participants will be able to compare their results online with other youth from all over the nation.
Activities like the National Youth Science Experiment are just one example of how young people can grow from their involvement in 4-H. “I love being a 4-H member,” says Cape May County 4-H Member Anya Camarillo, 11th grade, from Cape May.
“Being a 4-H member is such a great opportunity. 4-H gives me a better respect for the earth and others. I love volunteering and making a difference in the world. 4-H helps me accomplish many things, everything from building outside classrooms to building birdhouses. Being a part of 4-H requires hard work and dedication. These qualities build great character, therefore, a better person in life,” she added.
The theme for the 2010 National 4-H Week is “Taking the Lead.” In Cape May County, more than 2,900 4-H members are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. You can join them and the 4-H community today. Come find out how 4-H is “Taking the Lead” in preparing Cape May County’s youth for the future.
