County Public Works Association Announces Winners of 2013 Snow Plow Rodeo

COURT HOUSE — Freeholder Will Morey announced the winners of the 2013 Cape May County Public Works Association Snow Plow Rodeo that was held on Oct. 15, 2013 at the Naval Air Station Wildwood at the Cape May County Airport. There were 57 entries with a total of 114 drivers, in this year’s event, representing Cape May County departments, local municipalities and other agencies.
Freeholder Morey said, “The main objective of the rodeo is to promote safety and constructive competition while preparing equipment and operators for the upcoming winter season. We are very proud of the work that all of these entities and their employees do throughout the year for the residents of Cape May County.”
Teams competed in three different categories; Class A – vehicles 15,000 pounds and under, Class B – vehicles between 15,000 and 26,000 pounds and Class C – vehicles 26,000 pounds and over.
Frank Mc Call, Road Department Supervisor added, “The crews look forward to the rodeo each year which gives them an opportunity to show their skills and earn recognition for their departments as well.”
The following are the winners of the 2013 Snow Plow Rodeo:
Class A:
1st Place: Borough of Avalon – Eric Glenz/Brian Repici
2nd Place: CMC Mosquito Department -Tom Thompson/ Tony Verity
3rd Place: City of North Wildwood – Dominic Grassi/Bill Waldon
Class B:
1st Place: Borough of Avalon – James Wolford/James Versage
2nd Place: CMC Road Department – Gordon Adams/Ted DeSantis
3rd Place: Middle Township – John Oliva/Leroy Gift
Class C:
1st Place: Middle Township – George Spaulding/Leroy Jones
2nd Place: CMC Road Department – Ted DeSantis/Jim Cranmer
3rd Place: CMC Road Department – Donald Cella/Mike Notch
Also, during the event, training was provided by the Cape May County Division of Risk Management on Snow Plowing Safety. The session highlighted and emphasized the salient points of how to care for the safety of crew members plus how to properly handle and care for the equipment, trucks, plows and salt spreaders.
Additionally, the following vendors had exhibits at this year’s Snow Plow Rodeo: Advantage Rental Center, Ocean View, New Jersey, Central Jersey Equipment, Elmer, New Jersey, Dejana Truck Company, Kings Park, New York, Hoover Truck Center, Cinnaminson, New Jersey, Hunter Keystone Peterbilt, Butler, Pennsylvania , Intercon Truck Equipment, Inc., Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, Rodio Tractor Sales, Inc., Hammonton, New Jersey, South Jersey Gas Company, Folsom, New Jersey and U.S. Municipal, King of Prussia, New Jersey.
