The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in the Feel Grand Health Series presented by Caroline Peterson, Community Liaison of Right at Home in Home Care and Assistance. This series will be held on Tuesdays in Sept. from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street Cape May Court House, NJ. County Library Hosts Second Annual One Book, One Cape May Kick Off Event
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join with us in the celebration of the beginning of our second annual One Book, One Cape May, with “Beth Sholom: An American Synagogue” presented by Helene Mansheim of the Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation. This kick off One Book, One Cape May event will be held on Thurs., Sept. 1, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Cape May Court House Library located 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Beth Sholom Synagogue is the only synagogue designed by the noted American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Dedicated in 1959 it is one of Wright’s most important public buildings. Known for its amazing architecture and for the collaborative relationship between Wright and Rabbi Cohen. Come out and view the film “An American Synagogue: Frank Lloyd Wright, Mortimer Cohen and The Making of Beth Sholom”. The film will be followed up with a presentation and a question and answer time with Helene Mansheim from the Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation. We will then introduce our One Book, One Cape May initiative for the month of Sept..
The Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation, a non-sectarian, not-for-profit organization, was created to preserve the Beth Sholom Synagogue, a National Historic Landmark in 2007.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Cape May County Women – A History of Strength and Courage.” presented by Rita Marie Fulginiti and Laurie Thomas. Throughout history Cape May County women have been rugged, smart risk takers. Come out and learn about the lives of interesting women who made their mark here including: Colonial Baptist leader Lydia Parsons Shaw Leaming, Revolutionary War era heroines Rebecca Stillwell Willets and her sister Sara Stillwell Griffing, Cape May’s Annie Knight, Suffrage leaders Margaret Elizabeth Baker and daughters Frances, Katharine and Mary, Hotelier Caroline Cronecker, Mayor Doris Bradway, Doctor Margaret Mace, and Environmentalist Ruth Fisher.
Rita Marie Fulginiti serves Cape May County as County Clerk and Adjuster. The County Clerk maintains an archive of vital land and civil records dating back to 1692. Fulginiti began her career with the County Clerk’s Office in 1985. She loves Cape May County history and has managed technology and historical records projects to improve access to public records and to conserve precious archival collections.

County Library Hosts AARP Smart Driver Course
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join the “Smart Driver Course” presented by AARP. This event will be held at the Sea Isle City Library on Wed., Sept. 7, from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The library is located at 4800 Central Ave., Sea Isle City.
Refresh your driving skills with the AARP “Smart Driver Course”. You will learn defensive driving techniques, proven safety strategies, new traffic laws and rules of the road. Plus, there are no tests to pass. You simply sign up and learn. Upon completion you could receive a multi-year discount on your car insurance (depending on your auto insurance company’s rules and restrictions).
Course costs $15 dollars for AARP members and $20 for non-members. All fees due the day of the course, and all checks are to be made out to AARP.

County Library Offers Bridge Classes
The Cape May County Library invites the public to “Learn to Play Bridge” an 8-week course instructed by Ron Burczewski. This course will be held at 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Wed., Sept 7 at the Lower Cape Library, 2600 Bayshore Rd., Villas.
Learn to play the exciting and fascinating game of Contract Bridge which combines skill, chance, social interaction, adventure and mental fitness. The course will focus on the Standard American bridge system and cover all aspects of bidding, scoring, card playing, popular conventions and bridge etiquette, appropriate for all new and beginning players.
Ron Burczewski is a resident of Sea Isle City. He is a member of the American Contract Bridge League and has enjoyed playing and teaching Bridge for 40 years.

County Library Hosts Mosaic Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Mosaics by Michele: Create a Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Mosaic” this two-day workshop is presented by Michele Pasciullo. This workshop will be held at the Wildwood Crest Library, Tues., Sept. 8 & 15 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. This Library is located at 6300 Atlantic Ave. Wildwood Crest.
Be inspired by the classic glass art of Frank Lloyd Wright to create a unique geometric mosaic using strips of stain glass and tile. The first week of this 2-week workshop is planning and gluing. The second week is grouting and finishing.
Instructor Michele Pasciullo is a graphic designer with an AA from Cumberland County College. A member of Ocean City Fine Arts League, she’s displayed and sold her work at local shops as well as given home parties and workshops. Join her in creating your very own masterpiece!

County Library Hosts Basket Workshop
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Victorian/Edwardian through WWII period style basket” presented by Gail Donaghy. This program will be held on Thurs., Sept. 9 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Lower Cape Library located 2600 Bayshore Rd., Villas.
During this workshop for intermediates, participants will be weaving a “Victorian/Edwardian through WWII period” style basket.
Instructor Gail Donaghy can be found at the basket shop at Cold Spring Village throughout the summer where she explains the historic aspect of basketry as well as holding workshops in basic basket weaving. She also teaches at the Avalon Library and has, on occasion, taught private groups at various organizations upon request. Due to her background in local history, (she was a tour driver and guide for the Cape May Carriage Company, the Museum Education and Lecturer for MAC as well as being at Cold Spring Village), many of her designs are historically inspired though sometimes made of modern materials or modified to fit contemporary needs.

County Library Hosts Beginner Knitting Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Beginner Knitting: Knit a Dishcloth” presented by Debbie West. This 3-week program will be held on Saturdays, starting Sept. 10 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Woodbine Library located 800 Monroe Ave., Woodbine.
In this “beginners” class, you will learn the basic knitting stitch along with ‘Yarn Over’ and ‘Knit 2’ together stitches. These stitches are needed to accomplish the finish product of a dishcloth you will make and take home with you.
For Debbie West, crafts have always fascinated her, especially, creating and producing actual items to use and wear. She has been working with yarn and sewing since she was a child with my grandmother. A resident of Cape May County for 14 years, retired from nursing. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with others and has been teaching for 20 years, as well as, promoting my items at local bazaars.

Hosts Cape Cuisine Cooking Demonstration
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Cape Cuisine: The Food of Frank Lloyd Wright” presented by Chef Mark Kalla. This program will take place at the Cape May Court House Library on Sat., Sept. 10 at 1:00 p.m. this library is located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
“Cape Cuisine: The Food of Frank Lloyd Wright” will be a tour of food that Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick Cheney visited during their time in Europe, as described in Loving Frank. Come out and enjoy a European tour through the foods of France, Italy and Germany.
Chef Mark Kalla is the head chef at Green Cuisine Restaurant in Stone Harbor, and had his own restaurant, The Barrier Island Inn. He has been the executive chef at the Backyard Restaurant and later for Fish Tales.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in Mosaics by Michele: Create an Address Plaque presented by Michele Pascuillo. This 3-week program will be held on Mondays starting Sept. 12 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Sea Isle City Library located 4800 Central Ave. Sea Isle City.
In this 3-week mosaic course, participants will go in-depth to create a unique work of art to display on the front of their home. Topics such as planning a layout, choosing colors, preparing materials for outdoor use, and listening to your inner artist will be discussed. At the end of the 3-week course, participants will have a handmade, professional looking mosaic address plaque. No prior experience required.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend a viewing of a movie. The program will take place on Mon., Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m., Sea Isle City Branch, located at 4800 Central Avenue, Sea Isle City.
With One Book One Cape May in full swing the Cape May County Library will be showing Part One of a PBS documentary on Frank Lloyd Wright. This intriguing documentary, by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, explores the life, work, and relationships of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Each month, the Cape May County Library hosts a movie night for adults at two of its branch locations. A different movie is selected each month. We show wide-release, limited-release, independent, and documentary films. Our intention is to appeal to many tastes at Cape May County Library movie nights!

Library Hosts Naturalist Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Landscape Design with Wildlife in Mind,” presented by Pat Sutton, on Mon., Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m. This event will be held at the Cape May Court House Library, 30 W. Mechanic Street, CMCH.
Pat Sutton will emphasize designs that work with nature, not at odds with nature. Choosing the right plant for the right spot (and the right site for different elements of a wildlife habitat) is key. The program will showcase multi-dimensional, diverse, layered, and interesting-to-the-eye natural landscapes that benefit wildlife, emphasizing to “let nature be the guide.” Typical landscaping (lawn and uniform park-like plantings) will pale in comparison.
Pat Sutton has studied the natural world for thirty years. She and her husband, Clay Sutton, wrote the landmark book “Birds and Birding at Cape May,” an in-depth result of their efforts over many years documenting and protecting the migration and the Cape May area. County Library Hosts a Crochet Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “How to Crochet Granny Squares for an Afghan Throw,” presented by Jennifer Bolton. This 6-week workshop will be held on Tuesdays starting Tues., Sept. 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. This event will be held at Lower Cape Library located at 4800 Central Ave., SIC.
This six-week workshop is for anyone who wants to try their hand at crocheting granny squares for a crocheted blanket, also known as an Afghan. All participants are to bring a J hook, and either 4 skeins of yarn for a small square or 6 skeins of yarn for a larger one. The color yarn can be of your choice.
Jennifer Bolton learned to crochet from her grandmother, and hopes to pass on the tradition to her three girls. Jennifer has earned a degree in Fine Arts from Montgomery College.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in One Book One Cape May Author Event: Speaker Series with Nancy Horan, Wed. Sept. 14 6:00 p.m. This event will be held in the Sea Isle City Library located at 4800 Central Avenue, Sea Isle City. Doors to this event will open at 5:00 p.m. and close at 6:00 p.m.
One Book, One Cape May is a county-wide literary event that encourages members of the Cape May County community to read the same book at the same time and then to engage with the book’s themes at events throughout the county library system. By building bridges between communities and generations through the reading, we hope to help to promote reading as a lifelong pursuit and to work towards building a more literate society. This year’s One Book selection is Loving Frank by Nancy Horan.
Nancy Horan is the author of two novels Loving Frank (2007) and Under the Wide and Starry Sky (2014). Loving Frank chronicles, a little-known chapter in the life of legendary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and his client, Mamah Borthwick Cheney. Loving Frank remained on the New York Times Bestseller list for over a year. It has been translated into sixteen languages, and won the 2009 James Fenimore Cooper Prize for Best Historical Fiction, awarded by the Society of American Historians. A native Midwesterner, Nancy Horan was a teacher and journalist before turning to fiction writing. She lived for 25 years in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where she raised her two sons. She now lives with her husband on an island in Puget Sound.

County Library Hosts Jewelry Making Class
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Beginner Wire Techniques: Create a Sea Glass Pendent” presented by Suzanne McKeon on Fri., Sept 16 at 10:00 a.m. This event will be held at the Cape May City Library located at 110 Ocean Ave., Cape May City.
Learn to create a stunning Sea Glass pendant using Silver Plated wire. This technique is called a “border wrap” and can be used on Sea glass, Shells, Cabochons and large beads as well as many other things.
Suzanne has lived in Cape May County for over 25 years, and is an avid Sea Glass collector and Jewelry maker since she was 5 years old. She specializes in Sea Glass Jewelry, wire Working Techniques, and Silversmithing. She enjoys teaching both beginners, and intermediate classes.

County Library Hosts Calligraphy Workshop
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Beginning Calligraphy: Italic Hand” presented by Shirlee DiBacco. This 6-week program will be held on Fridays starting Sept. 16 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Cape May Court House Library located 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
The Italic style of calligraphy, also known as Chancery Cursive, was developed by Italian scribes during the Renaissance. Students will learn how to write these beautiful letters using a broad-edge pen and ink, covering the upper and lower case alphabet as well as spacing, layout design, envelope addressing and much more.
Shirlee DiBacco is professional calligrapher and 31year member of the Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society (est. 1976), a non-profit association which seeks to advance the knowledge and appreciation of calligraphy and to encourage the exchange of ideas among its members and the art community. She lives in Ventnor, New Jersey.

County Library Hosts Health Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in Mindful Weight Control presented by Valerie Driscoll. This 8-week program will be held on Fridays, starting Sept. 16 from 2:00 -4:00 p.m. at the Sea Isle City Library located 4800 Central Ave. Sea Isle City.
The key to successful weight control is less about the what we eat and more about the how and why we eat. Diets, which restrict eating, become and more difficult to maintain over time, and are rarely successful in the long term. Instead, Mindful Eating uses 35 years of research and science to focuses on habits and thought patterns behind eating behavior. It teaches us a new way to be with food that becomes easier over time, replaces guilt with curiosity, and truly works.

County Library Hosts Naturalist Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Raptors of the Garden State” presented by Stephanie D’Alessio of Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey (CWF) on Mon., Sept. 19 at 6:00 p.m. This event will be held in Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic.
Discover the adaptations that make osprey, bald eagles, and peregrine falcons unique. Explore the habitats that they call home and the environments where they hunt and breed. Learn how these birds of prey were brought back from near extinction and the conservation and recovery efforts that helped them to rebound. This “Raptors of the Garden State” presentation will consist of an hour long lecture complete with video and hand held replicas to assist the audience in their discovery and marvel of these fascinating creatures of the sky.
Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey (CWF) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of New Jersey’s endangered and threatened wildlife and the habitats they depend on. County Library Hosts Grand Finale Poetry and Music Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in ‘Beach Bards Poetry & Prose Grand Finale’ coordinated by Antoinette Libro and featuring critically acclaimed and award-winning writer and painter Dr. Nelly Toll and musicians “Marc and Maggie”. This event will be held on Sept. 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sea Isle City Library located at 4800 Central Ave., Sea Isle City.
Beach Bards Poetry & Prose Grand Finale will be featuring the poetry of Holocaust survivor Dr. Nelly Toll. Dr. Toll, who was born in Lwow, Poland was six years old when she and her family went into hiding for two years during the Holocaust. During this time, she created a series of watercolors and a diary that became the source of her critically acclaimed and award-winning memoir, Behind the Secret Window. She and her watercolors were recently received in Berlin by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Dr. Toll holds a Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania and continues to teach, write, and paint, while she is a much sought-after speaker all over the world. She lives in Voorhees, NJ with her husband.
Beach Bards Finale will also include the music of “Marc & Maggie.” They are an acoustic music duo with an affinity for the melodies and harmonies of the ’60s. As a singer/songwriter and social critic, Marc Zydiak is best known for a 1970s protest song. Marc’s original songs have been played on National Public Radio, the syndicated Dr. Demento Radio Program, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Margaret Leslie, “Maggie” was born in Dublin, Ireland and is a singer and musical collaborator, as well as an accomplished poet.

County Library Hosts Baking Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Honey Comb Candy” presented by Chef Ruth Latorre. This program will be held on Wed., Sept. 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Wildwood Crest Library, located 6300 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood Crest.
During the winter of 2015, Chef Ruth Latorre and 3 other chefs took a beekeeping class and currently have 2 full hives up and running. It has proven an interesting adventure! Chef Ruth was thinking of the amazing hexagonal architecture that the bees create out of wax to raise their brood in and thought “Did Frank Lloyd Wright ever think about that?” Seems he did, when she looked it up, he had built the Hanna-Honeycomb house in California in 1937! To help celebrate the “One Book, One Cape May” event, Chef Ruth will be demonstrating honey comb candy and talk about honey in recipes during this cooking demonstration.
Chef Ruth Latorre CWPC has been a baking and pastry chef/educator at the Academy of Culinary Arts in Mays Landing, NJ for the past 5 years. She is also an alumni of the program. Her Previous industry jobs include working at The Borgata in their famous Bakeshop for 10 years and 1 year with Wolgang Puck’s Atlantic City restaurant in the pastry department.

Rich had a professional career in music specializing in tuba/trombone performance. After eight years as an army musician, he played in many bands and orchestras in New York City including those of Frank Sinatra, Guy Lombardo, and Mel Tormè.

This 6-week program will be held on Thursdays starting Sept. 22 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Wildwood Crest Library located 6300 Atlantic Ave., Wildwood Crest.
This course will inform and inspire you as you study works by Art Masters while developing a finished piece of your own design. We will explore subject, form, and content through lessons in composition perspective, technique, and style. Be prepared to work hard and play easy.

County Library Hosts Communications Program
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Communicating & Listening Effectively” presented by Frank Ciecierski. This Program will be held two times on Mon., Sept. 26, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the Cape May Court House Library located 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
In this program Frank will go over investigating the relationship between unskilled communication and interpersonal relationships, identifying communication breakdowns or obstacles, discovering the eight attributes of effective and supportive communication, recognizing the different levels of listening, practicing active listening techniques, and learning supportive communication principles and behavioral guidelines.
Frank has been in business doing consulting, coaching and training for 28 years. He is a former Adjunct Professor in the MBA Management Program at Pace University, a former president of the New Jersey Professional Coaches Association, and a writer of various articles on leadership, management, sales, and assessments. As long as Formento can remember, food has been the top priority in his family. After spending sixteen years in restaurant kitchens across the country, Formento has returned to his roots in Cape May County to raise his own family. He hopes to help motivate healthy, organic, sustainable, and locally-based food practices. Though not at all a vegetarian, he believes strongly in a balanced approach to cooking, and finding the most delicious way possible in which to do it. The Cape May County Library invites the public to join in “Architecture & Restoration of Hereford Inlet Lighthouse” presented by Hugh McCauley. This Program will be held on Wed., Sept. 28 at 6:00 p.m. at Cape May Court House Library located 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Come out and enjoy a wonderful well rounded informational program! Hugh McCauley will cover some world and local Maritime History including the earliest known large lighthouses. He will then focus his program on the Hereford Inlet Light Station in North Wildwood. Featuring what it took to restore that structure as a place of visitation, education and enjoyment for all, young and old. Hereford Inlet Light Station is listed on the National and NJ Registers of Historic Places.
Hugh J. McCauley was graduated college in the early 1970s. He served two tours with the US Navy Seabees in Viet Nam and later taught at Philadelphia University as adjunct in the Architecture/Engineering program. Registered as a professional architect since 1975 he practiced in several States for 41 years. Mr. McCauley has co-authored two books and authored several articles about historic architecture and preservation of worthy US structures. He keeps a summer house in Cape May, NJ and lives in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
