County Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Freeholder Kristine Gabor is pleased to invite the public to participate in a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at the Cape May County Park and Zoo at noon Saturday, May 17.
This annual event is coordinated by the Cancer Education and Early Detection Program of the Cape May County Department of Health.
Cape May County Health Officer Kevin Thomas said, “Breast cancer ranks second among cancer deaths in women after lung cancer. Although 99% of all breast cancers occur in women, men can get breast cancer too.”
Aside from celebrating Mother’s Day in May, the state has designated May 20th as Breast Cancer Survivor Day. By increasing the public’s awareness about the risk factors and the need for research and a cure, Breast Cancer Survivor Day will become a significant anniversary for many.
Registration for the Awareness Walk will start at 11:30 a.m. followed by a warm-up session. Walkers will proceed around the park area at their own pace and will receive a free pink t-shirt for participating (while supplies last). Also, educational signage will be posted along the trail and breast cancer material will be available. At the conclusion of the walk, there will be some give-aways for the participants.
This is a perfect opportunity to come out to support breast cancer awareness and enjoy a day at park and zoo.
