Teen to Visit St. Jude Patients on Her Sweet 16

Savannah Hayes of Villas will celebrate her Sweet 16 birthday by taking donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis

By Johanna Hovik

VILLAS – Savannah Hayes of this community is celebrating her Sweet 16 birthday by sweetening lives of children at St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Hayes and her family are packing their vehicles March 23 and heading to Memphis, Tenn. Their destination: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Instead of the fancy Sweet 16 bash, Hayes opted to volunteer and brighten the lives of sick children at St. Jude.
Not only is she spending her special day with the children but she’s not going empty handed.  Hayes has been busy collecting donations to hand out while visiting the children. Crayons, markers, coloring books, stickers and lots of other youngsters’ favorites will also be making the trip from Cape May County to Tennessee.
Hayes’ school, Lower Cape May Regional High School, and the generosity of the community are making her birthday sweeter by donating goodies for the children.
Donations are being collected at various locations in the county, including the Cape May County Herald office, 1508 Route 47, Rio Grande.
Donations can be made until March 18. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, closed on weekends.
