WILDWOOD — On Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. the Wildwood City Fire Department will again host their annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Sandman Towers Complex,3700 New Jersey Ave.
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is not a timed race event, but a way for firefighters and the community to honor and remember the FDNY (Fire Department New York) firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live.
Each participant pays tribute to a FDNY firefighter by climbing or walking the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.
The proceeds of this event help the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to create and maintain programs that support fire service survivors.
The public’s support of the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event provides assistance to the surviving families and co-workers of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice Sept. 11, 2001.
Last year’s event raised over $18,000 with over 160 climbers participating. Anyone wishing to participate in this year’s climb or to make a donation may contact the event’s coordinator, Capt. James Grauel, jgrauel@wildwoodnj.org or visit http://events.firehero.org/site/TR?fr_id=2007&pg=entry
