COURT HOUSE – Sponsors are needed by the Middle Township Junior Panthers Football and Cheer Association.
According to Jeff McCart, president, the group is a Recreation Department operated by a few recreation staff and volunteers that serve approximately (145) youngsters from first through eighth grades in the Middle Township, Stone Harbor and Avalon school districts.
Because the registration fees are set by the township at $110 for football and $45 for cheerleaders, and some families have more than one child, and due to the present economic trends in the area, they cannot afford to pay the fees.
The Recreation Department gives the program a small stipend each year, but that only covers 25 percent of the program’s cost. The remainder must be covered by fundraising efforts of volunteers and parents.
“We need some sponsors from the business community to help us with our scholarship program,” McCart stated in a release.
Sponsors who donate $250 will be added to the annual Junior Panthers Football and Cheer T-shirt with other sponsors.
Each child in the program will receive a free T-shirt, which they wear around the area and thus advertising those businesses.
Additionally, at all events and on game days, the sponsors will be announced.
Volunteers are working hard to change the program for the better and have had much success, McCart reported.
Last year the scholarship sponsors helped 21 children become football players and cheerleaders.
In 2016 and 2017 the divisions were: Pee Wee (3-4 grade) and Junior Varsity (5-6 grade).
Divisions became the Cape Atlantic Jr. Football League (CAJFL) Champions
McCart’s goal is for every child who wants to be a member in the program to become one.
