COURT HOUSE – Ken Strain loves the holidays, but his love for Christmas has turned into a way to give back to our furry friends.
For years, Strain has decorated his house making a winter wonderland; photos of his property were even featured on HGTV. In the spirit of Christmas, Strain has turned his winter wonderland into a benefit and donation drop-off site for local animals.
Strain’s open house is Dec. 14 at his home at 134 Swainton-Goshen Road, Court House. From 6 to 8 p.m. he invites the public to enjoy the lights, have some sweet treats and help to make the holiday great for pets in need.
Strain encourages visitors to bring some pet items that will all be donated to Animal Outreach. “Tis’ the season” explains Strain, “Be kind to every creature.” You may even see Santa and his elves taking part in the festivities.
Although monetary donations are accepted, Strain is asking for item donations. Pet food, toys, blankets, pet beds, cleaning and laundry supplies are some of the items always in need.
“Anything you can think of that would help an animal in need,” said Strain.
Last year Strain’s Christmas open-house benefit was a success. Last year several hundred items were collected, “enough to fill the entire bed of a pickup truck,” Strain said with delight.
This year Strain chose Animal Outreach to benefit from his fundraiser because it’s an independent organization in need of donations.
