Hard of Hearing Group Meets at Cape Regional

COURT HOUSE – Do you strain to hear when someone is speaking? Do you often ask family and friends to repeat themselves? Do you have difficulty hearing on the telephone? If so, you are not alone, approximately 36 million American Adults have reported some degree of hearing loss.
The Hearing Loss Association – South Jersey Shore Chapter was created and is designed to bring together the people of the community who are hard of hearing. Members share strategies and tips for coping with a hearing loss. They also provide information on assistive listening devices, such as, captioned telephones and web captioning and also advocate for communication accessibility for the hard of hearing.
The next monthly meeting is Wed., April 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Maruchi Room at Cape Regional Medical Center. Jeanne Fredricksen, a representative from Med-El, a cochlear implant provider will speak at the April 17 meeting about the most recent generation of implantable hearing devices. She will discuss who qualifies, and how these devices can help. She will also touch on the rehabilitation process. CART (real time captioning) services will be provided.
