COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group was held April 18 at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County.
The group heard from Temerity Berry, director of Prevention Services, Cape Assist on what children need to succeed. Berry’s talk focused on proven and practical ways to raise good, well-rounded kids. Berry said, “Asset Building is an easy way any guardian can impact the children in their life. Research has proven that the more ‘Assets’ a child has the less likely they are to engage in risky behavior such as drugs, alcohol, and violence and be less likely to have feelings of depression and maintain overall good health.”
The next meet of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren will take place May 16, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dr. Naomi Jones, senior director of Outpatient Services for Jewish Family Service of Atlantic and Cape May Counties (JFS) will be the guest presenter.

She is a licensed clinical psychologist and co-founder of the Specialty Center for Youth Interventions at JFS which provides outpatient counseling for youth affected by emotional trauma or who have displayed disruptive behaviors. Over the past four years, she developed and expanded Cape May Trauma Treatment which provides outpatient trauma counseling to child and adolescent residents of Cape May County.
A light supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the program will follow at 6 p.m. There is no charge for this program, however, advanced registration is required. Please call Marian by May 10 at (609) 465-5115, ext. 3609 for more information or to register for the program.
