Community Volunteers Beautify Courtyard

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Kristine Gabor and the Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized Rio Grande Lowe’s and their employees along with Smeltzer and Sons of Cape May Court House on Nov. 19, 2012 for their contributions to the beautification of the North Courtyard at Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Under the Heroes Community Program, Lowe’s employees laid mulch, planted greens and even installed an arbor in the Courtyard. Additionally, Smeltzer and Sons donated 60 cubic yards of mulch for the recently completed beautification project.
Each year, Lowe’s Heroes volunteer program helps to improve the communities where Lowe’s customers and employees work and live. Together, each store’s team identifies a community improvement project that will make a difference in their community. This year, the Rio Grande Lowes selected Crest Haven Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center as their project. Their goal was to beautify the outdoor courtyard where the residents congregate.
Nine employee volunteers from Lowe’s Rio Grande store participated by clearing the courtyard, building a pergola and planting a variety of plants and trees, including mulch which was donated and delivered by Lowe’s community partner, Smeltzer and Sons Feed and Pet Supplies. While projects vary by location, Lowe’s Heroes volunteers share a common goal – to make communities better places to live.
Dan Hawkins, Lowe’s Store Manager said, “Lowe’s works hard to be a good neighbor and Heroes projects are a win for everyone – they just make us all feel good about our contributions to our communities.” Hawkins added, “Lowe’s embraces teamwork as a core value and a key ingredient in maintaining an engaged work force. We believe that by working together we can build something better — for our company, our customers and our communities.”
In 2010, thousands of employees from more than 1,000 stores took on Lowe’s Heroes volunteer projects. Employees contributed thousands of hours of volunteer work and nearly $1 million in materials.
Linda Lindsay, Director of Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center said, “We are grateful to Lowe’s and their employees for the time and care they took to create this beautiful place for our residents to enjoy.”
The following are the Lowes’ employees that participated in the Lowe’s Heroes volunteer program:
Dan Hawkins, Store Manager
Matthew Lawson, Project Specialist Interiors
Robert Franke, Assistant Store Manager
Jonathon Eller, Customer Service Associate
Terry Tubman, Customer Service Associate
Joshua Neider, Department Sales Manager
Clinton Holloway, Sales Specialist

Additionally, the project was enhanced by the work of the employees of the Cape May Count y Facilities and Services Department and the generous donation by Smeltzer and Sons Feed and Pet Supplies.
