Commander Nancy Galloway Retires from U. S. Coast Guard after 37 Years of Service

COURT HOUSE – Nancy Galloway, Director of Nutritional Services at Cape Regional Medical Center, has served in the U. S. Coast Guard since enlisting on March 16, 1973. Upon her enlistment, she attended basic training in Yorktown, Virginia and then pursued the rate of Subsistence Specialist (SS). Nancy became the first female in the Coast Guard to hold that rating. After a prestigious 37 years of service, and rising to the rank of Commander, Commander Galloway retired from the U.S. Coast Guard on October 1, 2010. The United States Coast Guard held a Retirement Ceremony in her honor on Saturday, April 2, 2011.
Commander Galloway’s assignments were throughout the country, including New England, East Coast, Gulf Coast, Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC and the Midwest. One of her more recent assignment was the Eighth Coast Guard District, New Orleans, Louisiana when she was deployed for hurricane response. Her final deployment was in response to the Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill (BP oil spill) at the Unified Command in Robert, Louisiana on the Gulf Coast.
Her awards include three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, a Humanitarian Service Medal, Transportation 9-11 Service Medal, Coast Guard Team and Unit Commendations, Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon, and numerous other personal and unit awards.

Commander Galloway, or Nancy as she is known at Cape Regional Medical Center, has served as Director of Nutritional Services of the Medical Center since August 26, 1993. She, and her husband Patrick, reside in Woodbine, New Jersey. Nancy has two sons, Michael, 28, and Joseph, 22.
