Colony Club of Ocean City Sells Pinwheels to Help Prevent Child Abuse

By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – People from all over came to the Ocean City Block Party to purchase crafts, sample the wares from local restaurants, and enjoy the spring like weather. Several non-profit organizations took the opportunity to raise money to help the community.
One such organization, the Colony Club of Ocean City, part of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, raised money through the sale of blue and silver pinwheels to support the Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey organization, which is the state project of the Federation. This organization is dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect through education. Education may take place in hospitals, through home visits, preschools, and group sessions. Training is also provided for those working with preschoolers and young people.
The Pinwheel Garden, set up in Mark Soifer Park, was established to bring awareness to this program. Supporters were asked to donate a dollar for each pinwheel. The pinwheel was then planted in the garden to provide a positive reminder that all children deserve a healthy, happy, and safe childhood.
Previously, on April 27 at a City Council meeting, Jim Mallon, Business Administrator, read a proclamation from Mayor Gillian declaring April 2017 as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Several members of the Colony Club attended the meeting, including Bonnie Hyson, Diane Mozzo, Colony Club president, Diane Root, Pat Smith, Barbara Weber, and Jane Snyder, Southern District State Project Chairperson. Within the proclamation, family and community communication was urged in order to strengthen and provide a positive environment for all children.
The Pinwheel Garden was a great success. The Colony Club is dedicated to supporting programs that benefit our community.
