Freeholders Honor USCG Captain for Service to Cape May County

Captain Prestige

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Captain G. Todd Prestige, Commander at the USCG Training Center in Cape May was recognized by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholder’s during the annual Memorial Day Ceremony held May 30, at the Police Training Academy.   Captain Prestige, who has served as a guest speaker at Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day and 9-11 Ceremonies over the past three years, will be leaving Cape May County in June.  He has been assigned to a post in Washington, DC.
In presenting the Freeholder Resolution, Freeholder Director Gerald M. Thornton, thanked Captain Prestige and his wife, Corry, for their dedication, support and friendship to the residents of Cape May County.  “Captain Prestige came to Cape May in June 2013, as the Commander of the Coast Guard Training Center, and he has made a lasting impact on our County.  He has been a great leader and friend to Cape May County and has strengthened the relationship and respect we have for the men and women who serve in the Coast Guard and especially those who are assigned to the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May”, Thornton said.
Captain Prestige spoke to those attending the Memorial Day ceremony about his career goals and vision in making an impression on the future of the U.S. Coast Guard. He pointed to the Coast Guard Honor Guard, who stood at attention at the back of the room throughout the ceremony, and explained that he does his job for them.
The resolution, signed by the Board, highlights Captain Prestige’s career and time spent in Cape May County.  Captain Prestige worked diligently with county leaders, including Freeholders Will Morey and E. Marie Hayes, to make Cape May County an official “Coast Guard Community”, a designation awarded by Congress in May 2015, given to only two counties in the nation.  Prestige and his wife, Corry, a retired Navy Commander, accepted the resolution.
