Coast Guard Assists 5 Near Cape May

By Herald Staff

CAPE MAY— The Coast Guard assisted five people aboard a 30-foot boat, taking on water, two miles south of Cape May Saturday.
The Coast Guard received a call at 2:45 p.m. from a crewmember aboard the Drifter reporting they were taking on water.
Two rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene and one of the crews transferred a pump to the crew of the Drifter. The other rescue boat crew took the Drifter and its crew in tow to Cape May Harbor near Cape May.
The crew of the Drifter was able to get the rate of flooding under control.
No injuries were reported.
“The crew of the Drifter were wearing life jackets and they called out on VHF channel 16, which makes it a lot quicker for us to respond to them,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Cooklin, a crewmember aboard one of the rescue boats.
