Weekend Festival Celebrates Cape May County’s U.S. Coast Guard Community Designation
CAPE MAY – The Cape May–Lewes Ferry (CMLF) is once again proud to host a special Sunday Breakfast honoring the United States Coast Guard, all support personnel – and especially mothers – who make service possible. The special breakfast event is part of the annual celebratory festival following last year’s designation of Cape May County as an official U.S. Coast Guard Community.
“We are honored to be part of a festival celebration that recognizes the importance and history of the U.S. Coast Guard to the area,” said Heath Gehrke, Director of Ferry Operations. “This special family day is great way to enjoy Mother’s Day with fun and interesting activities that celebrate our affinity with the Coast Guard. It’ll be relaxing break from the ordinary for moms too!”
The special breakfast, commemoration ceremony and outdoor demonstrations honoring the U.S. Coast Guard will take place on Sunday, May 8 at the Cape May Ferry Terminal. The special U.S. Coast Guard breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and has three available seatings: 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for children (2-13) and free for those under the age of 2. To reserve a breakfast seating, please call the Ferry’s guest services office at (800) 643-3779. Please see cmlf.com/menuCM for the special breakfast menu.
A presentation of awards ceremony honoring the winners of the art contest, the Coast Guard Spouse of the Year and the 2016 Community Coast Guardian will be held at 11 a.m. The day’s demonstrations and activities include a ferry life raft demonstration, a special live USCG ice sculpture demonstration and more! Entries by local school children to a Coast Guard-related art contest will be displayed at the breakfast. More details on the event and its activities, which are open to the public, can found at cmlf.com/USCGFestival.
To attend from New Jersey, call for a reservation and specify your preferred seating time. If you are traveling from Delaware, take the 8:45 a.m. departure from Lewes to join us at the 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. seating. Take the 2:30 p.m. boat back for a great day trip. Call (800) 643-3779 to book in advance and use code CGFest to get our special festival foot passenger day rate!
Cape May County has been designated by the U.S. Government as an official Coast Guard Community, one of only two counties in the U.S. to be so honored. A weekend celebratory festival will take place on Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8. For full festival details including Friday and Saturday events, visit coastguardcommunity.org.
