CG Dewaters Boat off Cape May

A Coast Guard 45-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Cape May assists the crew of a recreational vessel six miles east of Cape May

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – The Coast Guard assisted two people aboard a vessel taking on water east of Cape May, Nov. 1.
Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Command Center in Philadelphia received notification at about 10 a.m. that the 52-foot vessel Hakuna Matata with two people aboard was taking on water six miles east of Cape May.
A 45-foot response boat crew launched from Coast Guard Station Cape May, arrived on scene and dewatered the vessel. The pump was able to keep up with the flooding while the Coast Guard boat crew escorted the recreational vessel to the Canyon Club in Cape May Harbor.
“The crew aboard the recreational vessel noticed something was wrong and immediately notified Coast Guard watchstanders from their VHF marine radio on Channel 16,” stated Petty Officer Second Tyler Fontaine, coxswain on the case, in a release. “We were able to quickly escort them to safety and dewater their vessel because of their fast actions.”
No injuries or pollution were reported.
