By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY – A Blessing of the Waters and Memorial Service for fishermen lost-at-sea was held Fri. June 18 the Fisherman’s Memorial at the opening of this year’s Harborfest.
Clergy offered Bible and Quran readings and the Navy Hymn was played by the Coast Guard Recruit Band.
From the Blessing of the Waters: “Reach out your hand to them, send your Spirit to watch over them, ward off any threat of danger or disaster, and guide their courses through calm waters to their desired port. Then, when the time comes to return, bring them back with glad hearts to their shores and homes.”
A wall at the Fisherman’s Memorial contains the name of local fishermen lost at sea.
