CAPE MAY – Summer has a way of creeping up on parents. Before they know it, the summer break is upon them. For the 10th year in a row, the Center for Community Arts offers Summer Art Camp in Cape May and Lower Township. New to the offerings this summer is Mini Camp, summer art camp for 3 ½ to 5 year olds and will be held at Cape May Elementary School, from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon, Monday through Friday from June 25 to August 10.
Kids Arts Camp for ages 6 – 9 will be held at the Cape May Elementary School, 921 Lafayette Street from 9 a.m. -12 Noon, Monday through Friday from June 25 to August 10. YAP Summer Arts Camp is for ages 10 – 14 at the Cape May Elementary VILLAS – School and Millman Center, 209 Bayshore Road, Villas from 9 a.m. – 12 Noon, Monday through Friday from June 25 to August 17.
Returning teachers, Paige Cunningham and John Safrit will be joined by the teacher for the new Mini Camp, Penelope Cake. Penelope has been an arts educator for 32 years in New York City schools and recreation programs. New to Cape May, her interdisciplinary approach enlivens all of her classes with a balanced array of learning experiences as children learn and play together. Paige is an active artist and early childhood educator with over 21 years of experience teaching art and nature classes with children and adults. She holds degrees in Natural History, Early Childhood Education and children’s yoga.
Lead Teacher John Safrit has a BFA in Graphics Design & Fine Art. He was Creative Arts Director for an advertising firm. John paints water color designs full time. New to Lower Township, Linda Ennis has a bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Rowan University. She has worked for CCA previously at hotel camps and Art at the Library. Linda is a member of The Arts Educators of NJ and has presented workshops at their annual conferences.
CCA’s summer youth arts camps are composed of creative, fun, week-long projects with a new theme each week. The cost per week is $110 with a 10% discount on the 4 week package of $396 for the Cape May camps. The Lower Township camp is FREE to residents. Registration is limited to 20 children for YAP and Kid’s Camp. Mini Camp is limited to 15 children on a first come first served basis.
