You have bought alcohol for a party before but more than likely not on the scale of a wedding. If you are planning on buying alcohol for the wedding, bridal shower, bachelor and bachelorette party or any other event here are some tips to help guide you in the right direction.
1. Know your crowd
Are you catering to a group of people who are wine-os or craft beer lovers? Maybe you have some guests who do not drink at all or you are planning on having a large quantity of children in attendance. If so, adjust accordingly.
2. What type of bar?
Are you interested in doing a full bar, a modified bar or a beer and wine only bar? These factors will also play heavily into how much you buy for the event. In a modified bar you will want to include whiskey, gin and vodka with rum and tequila as optional.
3. Know the portions
Generally, a large bottle of wine will serve 4 to 5 glasses of vino. A large bottle of hard liquor will make 18 drinks and a keg will put you at 165 beers. When trying to plan assume that everyone has a drink per hour. Yes, some will drink more and some will drink less but typically one drink per guest per hour will leave you with enough. A sample bar will have 50% wine, 20% beer and 30% liquor.
