Wedding Preview Series: Look Your Absolute Best on the Big Day

By Megan Kummer

Looking forward to the Herald’s 2014 Wedding & Special Events Guide, this series will cover the essentials to planning, prepping, and enjoying some of life’s most major events. This week, we cover the essentials to looking and feeling your absolute best when the “big day” finally rolls around.
Eyes
A night of anxious tossing and turning is to be expected the night before your wedding day. But be sure that your eyes don’t reveal signs of a sleepless night. After waking up, immediately check your eyes for signs of redness. Red eyes do NOT photograph well. Swing by the pharmacy and grab eye drops to keep redness at bay.
Lips
In order to create the perfect lipstick palette, pre-condition lips with a deep moisturizing balm for at least two weeks before the ceremony. Apply three times a day and overnight to ward off dry and flaky texture, especially in colder winter months. Vitamin C Lip Protection can be used under your favorite lipsticks to nourish lips without fading color.
Face
To look your best on your wedding day, you have to start preparing your skin in advance. Check for blemishes, redness, dryness and other flaws. Use good moisturizer and have a couple of facials if needed. Those who decide to go the facial route should have the last session at least one week prior to the wedding, so all possible redness has ample time to fade. If you have a more serious condition, consult a dermatologist weeks in advance.
Make sure your makeup looks light and natural. Bridal makeup should have a “classic” touch to it. Avoid trendy looks like the “smoky eye” or bold colors as they will look dated a few years from now. Heavy foundation will start cracking in a couple of hours. Make sure you or your makeup artist uses only a light and “breathable” kind of foundation.
Compile your own “Wedding Day Survival Kit” for touch-ups and minor repairs:
Translucent Powder
Powder Brush
Lipstick
Lip Liner
Lip Gloss
Mascara
Eye Liner
Q-tips
Kleenex tissues
Blush (optional)
Hair
Having the perfect bridal hairstyle really does depend on the hair relationship you have with your stylist – this is such a key part of looking good, and feeling good on your big day. Make sure you have regular appointments so your hairdresser knows your hair, knows your face shape, knows that (for example) when you’re blow-drying it you need extra volume on your crown or you need width at the side.
A wedding hair trial allows experienced stylists to familiarize themselves with such hair needs. The trial is absolutely key. At Ambiance Salon & Spa, specialists work hard to create unforgettable beauty for the most memorable event of your lifetime. Consult Ambiance regarding your trial and designs for your entire bridal party and these stylists will personally contact you in regards to the number of individuals and the types of services you and your group will be requesting for this special day. Be prepared with answers to the following questions:
1. Total number and names of those who will be requesting our salon services.
2. Will each person need a shampoo & blow dry or an up-do service?
3. Will anyone in your party be requesting a make-up service?
4. Would you like a consultation or a trial service before the wedding day?
5. Will you or anyone in your group need any pre-wedding services?
For head-to-toe “big day” beauty, allow this seasoned staff to coordinate a polished look in Nail Design, Specialty Hair, and Make-Up Application for you, your bridal party and attendants. Even groomsmen can receive the royal treatment Ambiance style, as the salon offers hair designs, manicures, brow waxing, and facials for the guys as well.
