Two Teachers Learn True Love

By Megan Kummer

What we’ll remember…
Megan Laffey, 27, of Wildwood Crest was proposed to by Ryan Franks, 29, on the Crest beach on Sep. 21, 2013. The wedding date is set for July 19, 2014 with dinner and dancing following at the Cape May Convention Hall.
Megan recalls…
We met while teaching at Shawnee High School in Medford, NJ. As a graduate of Syracuse University, I now teach Math, coach the Dance Team, and am a Class Advisor at Shawnee. Ryan, a graduate of Gettysburg College, teaches Social Studies and coaches Boys’ Soccer and Bowling.
We are both extremely involved in the school community and initially hit it off while chaperoning a high school dance. It was at this dance that we learned we had similar goals in life and that we shared a love for the Cape May County beaches.
After two years of dating and summers spent at the shore, Ryan proposed at the beach where I grew up. Ryan arranged for photographer Frank Weiss to capture the engagement without me even knowing we were being followed on the beach.
After I said yes, he got me off the beach by telling me that there would be a limo waiting to take us out to dinner at the restaurant in Philadelphia where we had our first date. When we returned to our Marlton home, I learned that the limo story was a hoax, and was shocked to see family and friends waiting to congratulate us on the engagement!
