Snowcone Surprise Ends Big Day in Cape May

By Megan Kummer

What we’ll remember…
Meredith Eason and John Hiester were married on July 27, 2013 at the Southern Mansion in Cape May.
Meredith recalls…
I am originally from New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, and I attended Villanova University outside Philadelphia. My family went on many summer vacations to the Jersey Shore. My husband is from Nashville, Tennessee, but his mom is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, so they also vacationed at the Jersey Shore a few times during his childhood. My husband and I got engaged while living in Philadelphia, PA, and I immediately knew that I wanted to plan a wedding in Cape May.
We had six bridesmaids, six groomsmen, and five ushers. The youngest bridesmaid was my 13 year-old sister. I also had my two best friends from high school, and three of my good friends from my time in law school in Nashville, Tennessee. The maid of honor was my friend Jamie from Nashville. They wore champagne silk taffeta dresses from J. Crew in different styles. The best man was the father of the groom.
We all took pictures at 2nd Avenue Beach, Southern Mansion, and Hotel Alcott, where we had the reception. Great American Trolley Co. did a great job getting us around town in style. We had a plated dinner and a DJ. Dinner included a NY strip steak, chicken with a lemon lime zest, a lemon dill salmon, and a vegetarian risotto. We opened the dance floor to “Have a Little Faith in Me” by John Hiatt.
We had a snow cone food truck (Kona Ice) as a surprise around 10 pm, since we were honeymooning in Hawaii! After the reception, we all headed to the Rusty Nail Bar for an after party. After that, we left right away to go to Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii.
My favorite memory of the wedding has to be taking pictures on the beach and being able to spend the entire weekend with all our closest family and friends!
