From Army Training Camp to the Aisle

By Megan Kummer

What we’ll remember…
Nicole Maria Decicco married David Scott Phillips, II on Oct. 12, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Wildwood. The reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the Bolero Resort of Wildwood.
Nicole recalls…
Scott and I met in training to become radiology technicians with the Army. Scott has been in the army reserves for seven years now. We started out good friends and remained that way until we both realized and admitted that we cared a lot for each other.
He proposed to me in August of 2012. We were in phase two of our training (clinicals) and he was at Ft. Hood, TX. I was at Walter Reed in Maryland. He came to visit for a weekend and took me to a very romantic dinner and walk around town. When we got back to the room, he proposed. It was one of the sweetest moments I have ever encountered in my life and it was private…I love that.
I am from Lower Township and have lived there my entire life. I knew I wanted to get married in my hometown. Our wedding party wasn’t very big. We had just four groomsmen and five bridesmaids. The bridesmaids’ dresses were clover green and cocktail length. My best friend, Rachael Stanton, was my maid of honor and Scott’s brother Nick Phillips served as his best man.
Barbara’s Seashell Florist did a beautiful job with all of the arrangements for the ceremony and reception!
The weather was nasty that weekend! But despite that setback, it was so fun and we worked around it the whole way through! We posed for photos at the church and afterwards at the Bolero. Gelzunas Photography got some awesome shots.
I think my favorite memory would have to be all of the dances at the reception. Dancing with my father AND my new husband for the first time ever. And seeing Scott dance with my mom. It was all very emotional yet beautiful. I’m sappy, so it was definitely a memory I will cherish forever. Scott and I had our first dance as a married couple to “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts.
The overall atmosphere is another thing I’ll never forget. There was so much going on that day. I was stressed, and everyone was busy and running around. But in the end, the wedding was so full of love and compassion. Being away from home and with the army has made me appreciate my home, my family, and my friends that much more than I already had.
