STONE HARBOR – This summer, one family celebrated their 60th year vacationing in Stone Harbor.
In 1955, Charles and Anna Richardson of Columbia, Pa., their daughter Catherine Reiff, her husband Eugene and their three children rented a cottage on 110th Street in Stone Harbor. The beach town became an annual summer vacation. Their family grew over the decades, adding spouses, children and friends. This summer 56 cousins from across the country from Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio and California had an anniversary celebration. The family gathered for brunch at the Avalon Golf Club July 27. Their last anniversary party was in 2005 at the Bellevue Tavern.
Over 60 years, Stone Harbor has become more than a vacation. It became a family reunion during which cousins enjoy all that Stone Harbor has to offer; the beach, the shops, the entertainment, the restaurants and the ice cream! More importantly, the time has allowed cousins who live far apart to grow close, get to know each other and enjoy each other’s company. They’ve even had an engagement in the pavilion at 101st Street.
The original family members had no idea that their one-week beach vacation would lead to such a tradition. The family has rented many different homes all over Stone Harbor and three families have bought homes. Throughout the rest of the year, family members dream of their time of fellowship at the beach.
The anniversary party was filled with food, music, dancing, photo memories, raffle prizes, group t-shirts and love. The family is now looking forward to the next 60 years in their favorite summer vacation spot.
